Getting started
What do I need to run it?
Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and a one-time internet connection to activate. The first launch sets up what it needs automatically and may ask for one reboot.
The first launch is installing something. Is that safe?
Yes. It sets up the audio components the app needs. Windows prompts once for permission. Nothing else is required from you.
Accounts and access
How do I get access?
Sign in on the dashboard, then reach us via email (
support@overlaytech.systems) or the support chat. New accounts include one free trial.
Can I sign in with Google and email?
Yes. Both reach the same account when the email matches, so you can switch between Google and email login freely.
I lost my key. Can I get it back?
Sign into your dashboard. Your keys are listed there with a copy button.
Privacy
What leaves my computer?
Only the license check: your key plus a one-way device fingerprint. No content (screenshots, audio, transcripts, browsing) ever leaves your machine.
Where are my files stored?
All on your own disk. Screenshots, recordings, and transcription run and stay locally.
Licensing
What happens when my license expires?
The app locks immediately and asks for a new key. Renewing is just pasting a fresh key; your data and setup stay intact.
Can I move to a new laptop?
Yes. Deactivate from the old machine (license pill, Deactivate), or revoke it from your dashboard Devices list, then activate on the new one.
"Already used on another device"?
Your key is still bound to a previous machine. Deactivate it there or revoke that device from your dashboard, then retry.
Usage
Do I have to memorize hotkeys?
No. Every action has a clickable button. Click the menu icon in the toolbar for the full list, or hover any button to see its hotkey.
Does using it break my fullscreen app?
No. Buttons and hotkeys work without the overlay taking focus, so your fullscreen app stays exclusive.
Will it stay on top of other always-on-top apps?
Yes. It re-asserts the highest topmost layer continuously.
Updates and reset
How do updates work?
A green "update available" pill appears when a new version is out. Click it, download, close the app, run the new one. Everything carries over.
Something is not working. How do I reset?
Download and run the reset script (right-click, Run with PowerShell). It clears the cached setup so the app re-runs onboarding cleanly. Your screenshots and recordings are kept.
